Neglected feature finally gets a handset worth shouting about.
It’s that dual sim concept again and this time it’s going touchscreen…
Following on from the rather more basic DuoS D880 is the logical jump to the ‘D980’ – an F480 Tocco-ish leap for this useful yet confusingly undersold technology.
As you’d expect the D980 offers up a pair of sim card slots and both are live simultaneously meaning you can make and receive calls from either of them. Making all the right noises on the spec side, the D980 also sports a 2.6in QVGA touchscreen and a five megapixel camera with autofocus so this is easily the most highly specced dual simmer to date.
There has to be a ‘but’ though doesn’t there and in this case it is: ”but” there’s no 3G or WiFi. We could live without GPS, but these two are biggies (even Apple’s at it!) so that may be a deal breaker for some.
Unsurprisingly, no price or release details are available yet but its limited connectivity does strongly suggest we’ll be seeing the D980 in Europe at some stage. So if you’ve submitted to the dirty dual phone habit (one I thankfully managed to kick recently) this looks like your best bet so far, not that the competition’s up to much unless you’re a fan of unskinned Windows Mobile… *shudder*
