Samsung's new offerings include a number of convergence products, with monitors that acct as TVs, and a printer that scans and copies.
In our final Playbite 2004 report, we take a quick look at what Samsung had to offer. Samsung is a very large company and had a wide breath of offerings on show, ranging from laptops and monitors to mobiles, printers, DVD players and even microwave ovens.
Starting with the laptops, pride of place went to the M40, which Samsung claims is the lightest and thinnest laptop featuring a 17in screen. This offers a resolution of 1,440 x 900 pixels.
Despite this massive display it weighs in under three kilograms, less than many 15in laptops. The M40 is powered by Intel Centrino technology and Samsung claims that battery life is around the four hour mark. It sports 802.11g wireless, a DVD Super Multi-Drive and Memory Stick Pro support.
The M40 is priced at £1,599 including VAT and should be available now from selected retailers such as John Lewis.
Keeping in with the trend for multi function devices Samsung also announced two new monitors that can also acts as TVs.
The SM730MP features ‘Wise Link’, Samsung’s name for a multi-format memory card slot, enabling users to watch movies or images directly from the card on the screen. As well as a TV Tuner it also features an FM radio and multiple video inputs so you can hook up various external devices such as a camcorder or DVD player.
The SM730MW is a 17inch display with a wide-screen 16:9 aspect ratio and boasts picture-in-picture functionality. The SM730MP will retail at £399, and the SM730MW will retail at £429. Both will be available from late September.
Finally, Samsung also was showing off its new multifunctional printer, which the company claimed was the smallest in the world. The SCX-4100 offers printing, photo copying and colour scanning in a small space saving unit.
Despite its small dimensions of only 422 x 239 x 400mm (WxHxD), the tray has a 250 page capacity, and printing takes place at a claimed 14 pages per minute.
The SCX-4100 is available now for a suggested seling price of £169.99 including VAT.
