Samsung NC20 Leaked

12.1in is not a netbook, though.

Samsung was a bit late to the netbook party with its NC10, but we were happy to forgive the company that for making arguably the best netbook on the market. So as odd as the rumours of a successor called the NC20 sound, we’re willing to take notice just in case Samsung produces another gem.

If the rumours circulating from GenzoMedia are right then Samsung’s NC20 will, much like the Dell Mini 12, not actually be a netbook – by Intel’s own definition – packing, as it will, a 12.1in screen. Unlike the Dell, which uses an Atom CPU, though, the NC20 will purportedly sport a 1.3GHz VIA U225 CPU which isn’t listed on VIA’s site, but will presumably share characteristics with the likewise-clocked U2350.

What platform this VIA CPU will plug into is unclear, considering VIA doesn’t have the best reputation for making decent chipsets. Could it be that the suspended development between VIA and nVidia has been resumed? Although nVidia’s development of the ION platform makes that slightly unlikely.

According to the rumours a release is chalked for February, so until then let the speculation run rife.
