Samsung launches gold Gear S2 Classic, undercuts Apple by a long way
Samsung has launched its gold-plated Gear S2 Classic New Edition smartwatch, and it’s a lot cheaper than the gold Apple Watch.
China will be the first country to get the stylish wearable, with further launches across the world due in the coming months.
There’s been no confirmation of pricing, but the Verge spotted the gold and platinum versions available for preorder for €480 on dutch site Cool Blue.
That works out to around £364 and around $520, although that’s far from a sure thing until Samsung gives final confirmation.

With Apple’s gold Apple Watch Edition selling for as much as £13,500, Samsung’s pricing offers a significantly more affordable option for those who like their smartwatches to come with a touch of refinement.
This is due to the fact that while Apple’s watch is made of solid gold, the Gear S2 Classic New Edition is only gold plated, with the main body made of stainless steel.
Samsung’s latest take on the Gear S2 has the same specs as the regular version, and if the pricing from Cool Blue is correct, the New Edition will be around £100 more expensive.

New apps and watch faces have been designed to accompany the launch, including new CNN and Bloomberg Gear S2 apps.
