Despite the calamitous Galaxy Note 7 recalls, Samsung has no plans to put the flagship phablet range out to pasture.
In a statement on Monday, Samsung announced a new Note 7 upgrade program and, in doing so, confirmed the Galaxy Note 8 will happen.
South Korean customers who trade in the Note 7 for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge will be eligible for an upgrade to a Galaxy S8 or a Note 8.
The deal involves a free trade now with the option to buy a half price 2017 device (via Reuters).

The company is yet to officially state whether the same offer will be available to customers in other markets.
Samsung said “availability of such a program in other markets will be dependent on the situation in each country.“
The company has ruled out any possibility the Note 7 will return to market, but whether customers will trust a Note 8 enough to return the range to best-selling status remains to be seen.
The Galaxy S8 had been expected to arrive at Mobile World Congress in February 2017, although reports on Monday suggested the current problems may force Samsung into a delay.
