President Obama’s administration has allowed the Samsung import ban in the US to go ahead.
Samsung will be forced to stop importing certain smartphone and tablet models in the US after President Obama’s administration has decided not to veto the ban.
The ban was won by Apple during a patent infringement dispute between it and Samsung, and will stop the South Korean company from importing certain models, including the Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy S 4G.
Samsung is arguing against the US ban imposed by the US International Trade Commission, because Obama’s administration overturned a ban on the iPhone 4S in August. The South Korean company will now try and delay the ban via an American appeals court.
The US International Trade Commission said the company’s flagship models are not affected by the ban, which was imposed after Samsung was found guilty of Apple patent infringements for a multitouch feature and a sensor for headphone jacks.
“The order expressly state that these devices and any other Samsung electronic media devices incorporating the approved design-around technologies are not covered,” added Froman. “Thus, I do not believe that concerns with regard to enforcement related to the scope of the order, in this case, provide a policy basis for disapproving it.”
Models like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are not affected by the ban as Samsung was forced to change its design because of the lawsuit.
