Samsung GT-P8110 Tablet Outed – New-Design Galaxy Tab?

A new Samsung Galaxy tablet has been detailed in an FCC filing. Any communications gadget to be sold in the US has to pass through the process, and the accompanying sketch shows it has a slightly different design to current models.

Curves are in, it seems. An outline sketch of the Samsung GT-P8110 was submitted as part of the filing, and indicates that the tablet’s edges are a good deal rounder than the current Galaxy models. The only other explicit details revealed are that it’ll feature Wi-Fi, Blutooth and NFC – virtually no-brainers for a self-respecting 2012 tablet – and will have a camera with flash.

Digging a little deeper, there are a few more details to be uncovered. The less severe edges suggest this is a large tablet, as do the proportions of the camera housing within the FCC diagram. Some say that the tablet may be larger than the 10.1in Android norm, with 11.8in cited as the most likely figure. It’s an unusual size, but very Samsung, given the company has released 8.9in and 7.7in Android tablets already.

The FCC filing suggests that the GT-P8110 will be sold in both Wi-Fi only and 4G variants, although if we see either in the UK, it’ll be the Wi-Fi only model. Bidding for the UK’s 4G bandwidth has been pushed back into 2013, holding back any mainstream 4G network plans until a good while after that.
