Samsung Gear S2 priced, and it’s cheaper than the Apple Watch

Samsung’s Gear S2 smartwatch has a price, and it’s cheaper than the Apple Watch. In Canada, at least.
Best Buy Canada (via Wareable) lists three models of S2 up for pre-order. The silver and black models cost 399.99 CAD, which translates to £196. The Classic model is a little pricier, at 429.99 CAD, which is £210.
The Apple Watch, by contrast, starts at 449.99 CAD. In the UK, it starts at £299.
The Gear S2 is unlikely to be quite as cheap in the UK. But it could still undercut the Apple Watch.
Apple has come to dominate the smartwatch industry since the Apple Watch launched back in April. According to market research firm IDC, Apple shipped 3.6 million units of Apple Watch in the second quarter of the year (April to June).
Though according to Slice Intelligence, sales of the device have dropped to just 4,000 per day in the US, down from 200,000 per day shortly after launch.
At last week’s Apple event, CEO Tim Cook didn’t reveal sales figures for the device, but said that customer satisfaction was at 97 per cent.

When it comes to smartwatches, Samsung has taken its usual tack of throwing enough designs at the wall and seeing which stick. The Gear S2 looks to be its best yet though. It’s the firm’s first with a round face, and features an innovative rotating bezel you use to control it.
It also has NFC for mobile payments and wireless charging and 4GB internal storage.
