Samsung Gear S2 iPhone compatibility dated
The Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch will gain iPhone compatibility sooner than you might have expected.
As part of Samsung’s extensive CES 2016 keynote address, the company announced that its latest smartwatch would be receiving iPhone compatibility later this year.
This was big news for a couple of reasons. For one, the Samsung Gear S2 surprised everyone late last year by being pretty darned good. In fact, it might well be Samsung’s best smartwatch to date – and he company has released an extensive number of products.
The second point to note is that the Gear S2 runs Samsung’s own custom Tizen OS, so it doesn’t comes with the automatic iPhone compatibility of Samsung’s Google-driven Android Wear efforts. This is Samsung quite explicitly making a (welcome) concession to Apple.

Of course, the lack of a solid date might have suggested that Samsung is in no rush to provide this iPhone update, but Pocket-lint has received news to the contrary. Apparently, Samsung’s Kyle Brown has revealed that the Gear S2
iPhone update will be coming in mid-January. Yep, it’s just weeks away.
Samsung also announced the impending released of 18K rose gold and platinum versions of the Samsung Gear S2 at its 2016 CES presentation. We don’t know when these will launch, but it seems both will be compatible with iOS when they arrive.
