Samsung Gear Blink to launch in March 2015?

The Samsung Gear Blink wearable could launch in March 2015 according to a new report.

Rumours of Samsung developing a Google Glass rival have been circulating for quite some time now and the latest suggests it will launch next year.

According to industry sources, Samsung is preparing to launch a Tizen powered wearable called the Samsung Gear Blink in March 2015.

That would put its launch around the same time as the Samsung Galaxy S6, potentially for a dual unveiling – similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Samsung Gear VR.

Apparently, this Tizen-powered headset could use augmented reality to project a virtual keyboard onto your hands. This is something that Samsung already has a patent for and it would let you literally type in the air.

Each portion of your finger would be given a different letter in the QWERTY alphabet and we guess that you’d have to tap each section to select the letter.

As of yet, there’s been no renders as to what the Samsung Gear Blink could look like. However, Samsung does have a number of patents and trademark filings for similar devices, including images like the one above.

All of them have look vaguely similar to the Google Glass though, with a small screen positioned above one eye.

There’s no guarantee that Samsung’s eventual augmented reality headset will look anything like that though at this stage.

Initially rumours pegged the Gear Blink to launch at IFA earlier this month, but instead Samsung surprised us with the Gear VR. It attempts to offer a similar experience to the Oculus Rift, but instead works by slotting the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in the front.
