Samsung Galaxy Young launched as budget Android handset

The Samsung Galaxy Young has been officially unveiled, with the Android 4.1 handset lining up as the company’s latest budget smartphone.

Targeting the entry-level youth market, the aptly named Samsung Galaxy Young lines up at a minimal 3.27-inches in size, with the compact budget handset pairing a number of Samsung Galaxy S3 design traits with a selection of basic specs and features.

“With a compact, curved frame, the Galaxy Young has been designed with an ergonomic style and finished with simple clean line, providing a comfortable grip,” and official Samsung spokesperson said. “Beyond its chic design, the 3.27-inch full touch HVGA resolution screen makes viewing photos, messages and multimedia clear and detailed.

Samsung Galaxy Young Specs
Set to be made available in white, deep blue, wine red and metallic silver colour schemes, the newly unveiled Samsung Galaxy Young runs Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS within its compact, 12.5mm thick, 112g in weight form factor.

With a bare-bones 1GHz single-core processor acting as the handset’s power station, the Samsung Galaxy Young specs sheet sees 768MB of RAM and 4GB of integrated storage feature. The latter can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card inclusion.

With a single, 3-megapixel camera featuring on the handset’s rear, the Samsung Galaxy Young, which runs the company’s popular TouchWiz UI, does not host a forward-facing snapper, meaning video calls are out of the question.

Completing the Samsung Galaxy Young features list, a 1300mAh Lithium Ion battery lines up alongside the standard collection of Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity options.

Samsung Galaxy Young Release Date and Price
Although Samsung has as yet failed confirm a precise Samsung Galaxy Young UK release date, the handset which is expected to be showcased at MWC 2013 later this month is set to hit British shores in March. A Samsung Galaxy Young price is still unknown.

Should Samsung continue with its raft of budget handset or should the Korean firm focus its efforts on the high-end market with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4? Share your thoughts via the TrustedReviews Twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.
