Samsung’s next tablet is shaping up to be “Lite”

We’re never surprised to hear that Samsung has a new device in the works.

According to the latest reports, the company is planning to launch a new “Lite” tablet in 2016.

A new device – tipped to be the sequel to 2014’s Galaxy Tab 3 Lite – has turned up on import/export tracking website Zauba.

The tablet is identified as “SM-T116IR”, which appears strikingly similar to the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite’s model numbers SM-T1110 and SM-T111.

It’s also worth noting that design may still be ongoing, since the devices being shipped come with the caption: “For testing and evaluation purpose and will be destroyed. Not for sale.”

What’s more, the cost listing for the tablets is $104 per unit, which gels with the Galaxy Tab Lite series’ budget pricing.

Adding fuel to the fire, there’s also a benchmarked device on GFXBench with the same model number as the one listed on Zauba.

The specs on this benchmark readout seem to fit with the Galaxy Tab Lite series. In fact, both the new device and the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite use a 7-inch screen with a 1,024 x 600 pixel resolution.

However, there are a number of improvements in store. Also set to feature is a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked to 1.2GHz, Qualcomm’s Adreno 306 GPU, 1.5GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel selfie shooter to boot.

Unfortunately, Samsung is yet to make any official announcements regarding a new tablet, so take this report with a pinch of salt.
