The Samsung Galaxy S5 will match the iPhone 5S on power, the South Korean manufacturer has confirmed just days after the new iPhone’s unveiling.
With Apple having this week launched the iPhone 5S with a new 64-bit A7 processor in tow, bitter rival Samsung has already been keen to stress that its leading smartphones will not trail on power for long, confirming that
Questioned by the Korea Times on whether its future phones will run 64-bit CPUs like the iPhone 5S, Samsung’s CEO of Mobile Shin Jong-Kyun stated: “Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality.”
Although Shin failed to mention the Samsung Galaxy S5 by name, it is widely believed that the new flagship handset and Samsung Galaxy S4 follow-on will be the company’s first phone to adopt the high-speed processor.
Intent on competing with Apple at every turn, Samsung has added that with the Cupertino based company looking to improve its distribution in China, it will also target growth in Asian markets.
“Samsung understands that Apple intends to boost its mobile business in China, as well as in Japan, meaning that we should try harder in these countries,” Shin said.
An unnamed Samsung executive reportedly added: “Apple believes that it can boost its market share in China thanks to stronger brand awareness. However, with better pricing, a diversified product line-up and solid partnerships with local channels, Samsung plans to keep its current momentum in China. We have no reason to allow Apple to steal market share from us.”
The iPhone 5S is the first 64-bit smartphone and a device which features a number of improvements on last year’s iPhone 5. With a new Touch ID fingerprint scanner for improved security, the handset, which was unveiled alongside the iPhone 5C, adds an improved 8-megapixel camera to the mix alongside the new iOS 7 operating system.
