Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime may be limited edition

The heavily rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime with QHD display may launch as a limited edition of the handset.

According to a new report, the QHD version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will launch in limited quantities later this year.

Similar to what Samsung did with the curved Samsung Galaxy Round, the rumoured S5 Prime may only be available in certain markets or with restricted production.

The Korean media report suggests Samsung is struggling to cope with the higher production costs of QHD 2560 x 1600p OLED panels for the smartphone, hence why it opted to put a 1080p full HD screen in the Galaxy S5.

Samsung’s first curved display smartphone, the Galaxy Round, only launched in South Korea in limited qualities due to the high production costs, and has been quite a financial failure.

Rumours suggest the S5 Prime will be officially announced in June, but it doesn’t look like you’ll be able to get your hands on it that easily.

If it does launch in limited quality, the S5 Prime could suffer the same fate as the Galaxy Round.

According to rumours, the LG G3 will launch on May 27 with a 5.5-inch 1560 x 1440p QHD display, so it makes you wonder how LG is coping with panel production costs.

The same applies to the flexible display LG G Flex, which launched worldwide with widespread availability.

Along with the expected QHD display, the S5 Prime is tipped to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with an Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM and potentially a metal body similar to the HTC One M8.
