Samsung Galaxy S5 launch live stream invite teases new Touchwiz UI

Samsung has released the live stream invites for the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch event, which suggests a new TouchWiz UI will launch imminently.

Fans of the South Korean electronics giant will be able to watch the Samsung Unpacked 5 live stream on YouTube, according to the latest invite published on Twitter.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 launch event will take place on Monday February 24 at the Barcelona-based MWC 2014 conference, and this live stream invite has just given a huge hint to one of its new features.

On the right hand side of the live stream invite is a selection of nine icons that suggest the Galaxy S5 will come with a brand new Samsung Touchwiz UI.

The circular icons are not only very iOS 7 like, but are also in line with the leaked Samsung Galaxy S5 Touchwiq UI that emerged earlier this year.

The small green Fitness icon also looks strikingly similar to the refreshed S Health app seen in screenshots leaked earlier this month and heavily tipped to launch with the Galaxy S5.

Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S5 would launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2, which would explain an increased focus on fitness features with the first 2014 flagship.

“We’ve been announcing our first flagship in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time,” said Lee Young Hee, Samsung Mobile’s Executive VP. “When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.”

From the looks of previous leaked UI images, Samsung is refining its Touchwiz UI with thinner font, and less cartoonish icons and overall UI feel.

Other new UI features may include a HTC BlinkFeed style homescreen for the Samsung Galaxy S5, as tipped by previous leaked screenshots.
