Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom to host 10x optical zoom?
New Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom rumours have surfaced, with the camera-centric Samsung Galaxy S4 spin-off expected to feature a 10x optical zoom.
A mash-up between the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Camera, it has been claimed that the currently unconfirmed Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will line up with a 16-megapixel camera sensor, further enhanced by 10x optical zoom.
Further bridging the gap between smartphones and dedicated compact snappers, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom has been said to feature a 4.3-inch qHD AMOLED touchscreen display, similar to the current Samsung Galaxy Camera, with the handset to benefit from Android innards and the usual collection of 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity options.
Although Samsung has yet to formally acknowledge the existence of such a device, serial tipster SamMobile has today claimed Samsung will formally unveil the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom later this month.
Although unconfirmed, recent Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom rumours have claimed that a Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom release date will be held on the week beginning June 3, an arrival that would hint towards an imminent unveiling.
While Samsung might be the most high-profile company to be working on an optical zoom bragging smartphone camera, it is far from the only manufacturing pushing this envelope with Huawei having recently confirmed it will launch optical zoom hosting smartphones within the year.
Speaking exclusively with TrustedReviews back at MWC 2013, Kevin Ho, President of Huawei’s Handset Product Line, stated: “I think we should soon be seeing optical zooms on smartphone.”
He added: “This is a feature for the compact camera, but we want to design this on our smartphones. We want to make smartphone camera sensors larger, and we even have some optical stabilised designs for our next smartphones.
Questioned directly on the likely launch of optical zoom bragging smartphone cameras, Ho stated: “We are doing some research around this area; we want to give the ‘wow’ products.”
