The Samsung Galaxy S4 is almost certain to maintain a lightweight plastic casing when it is revealed next week, judging by comments attributed to a senior company executive.
Samsung’s executive VP of mobile Y.H. Lee told CNET that the Korean giant has no plans to alter its design ethos to match the likes of the Apple iPhone, HTC One and Nokia Lumia 820, that are making use of more premium materials like aluminium, glass and polycarbonate within their handsets.

It’s fair to say that the plastic body, which some have claimed make the phones look cheap, was one of the few relatively unpopular features on an otherwise supremely popular Samsung Galaxy S3 handset.
However, logistically, Lee said there’s more to consider than simply the aesthetics.
Lee, who wasn’t quoted directly by the site, reportedly said the materials used in the handset’s production must be easy to manufacture quickly, given the volume of smartphones the S4 is likely to ship.
He also pointed out that the removable bendable plastic casing remains popular at the company due to its lightness and durability compared with other options.
So, it seems that there won’t be too many design changes when the Galaxy S4 meets the world on March 14.
Recent speculation has suggested that the device may bump up the display size to 5-inches, while other hardware changes are confined to the inside of the device, with rumours of an octo-core Exynos processor.
Reports continue to push towards software advances being the highlight of the launch event. Just yesterday we brought news of the likely inclusion of “Eye Scroll” tech, which would use the front-facing camera to detect when a user had reached the bottom of a page they’re reading.
