Samsung Galaxy S4 sales reach 40 million milestone in six months

Samsung has announced that over 40 million Samsung Galaxy S4 handsets have been sold since the smartphone launched in April.

The Galaxy S4 saw initial sales success, selling  10 million units in the first month of launch, but the company has now revealed the flagship has been sold to more than 40 million consumers.

Speaking to Korean publication inews24, Samsung Mobile chief JK Shin claims over 40 million units of the Galaxy S4 have been sold in the six months since its April 26 release date.

Shin didn’t provide any further details regarding a figure breakdown for the Galaxy S4 sales, or whether this includes the various models like the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active or camera-centric Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.

However, the figure is still remarkable for any smartphone, so it will be interesting to see how Samsung builds on the S4’s success with the Samsung Galaxy S5 next year.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumours
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumoured to pack a 64-bit processor to match the new Apple A7 chip in the iPhone 5S, all packaged within a metal body rather than the plastic or leather effect “textured back cover” of the Galaxy S4 or Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Like the Galaxy Note 3, the Galaxy S5 should have 3GB of RAM made using Samsung’s new low power DDR3 chips. This would enable Samsung to make a slimmer smartphone with a longer battery life.

Latest rumours suggest that the Galaxy S5 could be waterproof and dustproof from the outset, negating the need for a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active and opting to following in the footsteps of the Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia Z.

The Galaxy S5 is reportedly scheduled for a surprise January launch rather than the usual April announcement.
