Samsung Galaxy S4 reaches 10 million sales milestone, new colours announced

The Samsung Galaxy S4 surpassed the 10 million unit sale milestone less than a month after the flagship launched.

Currently available in over 110 countries, Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S4 has sold over 10 million units within its first month, beating all previous records.

Less than a month after the April 27 Samsung Galaxy S4 release date, Samsung’s flagship is estimated to be selling at a rate of four units per second across the world.

Setting a new sales record for the South Korean company, the Samsung Galaxy S4 reached the 10 million milestone far quicker than any of its predecessor. The Samsung Galaxy S3 took 50 days to reach such a figure in 2012, while the Galaxy S2 didn’t reach such success until five months after launch. The original Samsung Galaxy S took seven months.

“On behalf of Samsung, I would like to thank the millions of customers around the world who have chosen the Samsung Galaxy S4”, said JK Shin, CEO and President of the IT and Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “At Samsung we’ll continue to pursue innovation inspired by and for people.”

Samsung also announced that it will be offering the Samsung Galaxy S4 in four new colour iterations: Blue Artic, Red Aurora, Purple Mirage and Brown Autumn. It’s not known whether all of these colours will be available in the UK alongside the current Black Frost and White Mist Galaxy S4s.

The South Korean company announced on May 15 that the Samsung Galaxy S4 had sold 6 million units, globally shipping four million units in the first five days. However, all of the above figures are not for actual user sales, but of sales to retail outlets and network operators.

The 10 million unit sale figures therefore does not directly relate to the number of handsets in people’s hands.
