Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders better Samsung Galaxy S3 records

The Samsung Galaxy S4 could easily outsell the Samsung Galaxy S3, if the upcoming flagship’s pre-order figures are anything to go by.

Phones 4U has reported that within 48 hours of launching its registration page, the Samsung Galaxy S4 had already generated 40 per cent more interest than its predecessor.

“The anticipation surrounding the next Samsung Galaxy device has been astounding and it has already received the most pre-registrations at Phone 4U of any other smartphone launch in 2013, as well as a 40 per cent increase on pre-registrations for the Galaxy S3 in the first 48 hours,” revealed Phones 4U’s Chief Commercial Officer, Scott Hooton.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 launched yesterday at a dedicated Samsung event in New York, and it was shown to pack a full range of new features that should stand it in good stead against other new Android handsets like the HTC One.

The upgraded Samsung flagship will pack an eight-core Exynos 5 processor with 2GB of RAM, running the latest iteration of the Samsung TouchWiz UI.

At last night’s launch, however, Samsung chose to show off the new functions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 rather than its powerful innards. The 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display beauty packs a 13-megapixel rear camera coupled with a 2-megapixel offering up front, offering new camera functionality including Dual Shot, allowing users to shoot stills and video with both cameras simultaneously. Eraser Shot is also another new feature, which offers users to options to remove any unwanted people or objects from their photos.

“We know from YouGov research that 46 per cent of smartphone owners in the UK are considering getting a Samsung smartphone next, and so we’re predicting that the Galaxy S4 could be in with a strong chance of becoming the biggest selling smartphone of 2013.”

The new TouchWiz UI has been upgraded to include technology that offers content access without having to actually touch the display. Air Gesture allow users to swipe through content by motioning from left to right over the screen, whilst Air View offers a preview of the selected content by just holding a finger above the display.

All this new tech – and this brief outline isn’t anywhere near exhaustive – has meant the Samsung Galaxy S4 already looks set to outsell the Samsung Galaxy S3, which itself smashed records for the most pre-ordered handset when it launched in May last year.

“The Samsung Galaxy S4 has exceeded our expectations in terms of technological innovation and form factor and we are extremely excited about its arrival at Phones 4U.”

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is due to launch in the UK on April 26, as the world’s first eight-core smartphone.
