Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 update to be rolled out in January

The eagerly awaited Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 update will be rolled out in late January, French carrier SFR has suggested.

Although Samsung has yet to announce exactly when Samsung Galaxy S4 owners can expect an official Android 4.4 update, last month a leaked internal document from the Korean manufacturer suggested that a KitKat update would be rolled out to the flagship phone in January 2014.

Now, French carrier SFR has added further backing to the January Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 update claims, stating that the HTC One rival will make the move to the latest Android OS in a matter of weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 update will reportedly be rolled out alongside a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 update that will see the company’s latest phablet offering also add a KitKat filling.

The update to Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) should be available between late January and early February 2014 for Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3,” an SFR statement on the company’s official blog has announced.

Originally launched aboard the Google Nexus 5, the Android 4.4 KitKat OS will bring a number of improvements to the Samsung Galaxy S4, including an all new Google search app integrated within the phone’s homescreen, improved Hangouts functionality and background performance enhancements.

Last month the Samsung Galaxy S4 was handed an Android 4.3 update which brought Samsun Galaxy Gear compatibility to the phone for the first time.
