After the iPad 3 being called the new iPad, rumours were brewing that Samsung might be going down the same route with its premium Android phone, the new Galaxy S. Thankfully, it’s now a safe bet that it will actually be called the Samsung Galaxy S3, as the source for this particular titbit is actually Samsung itself, through its Unpacked Mobile 2012 app.

In the below screengrab, you can actually see “galaxy s3” in the keywords.

To be honest this makes us happy campers, as we like to be able to differentiate products by name. Having a higher model number for successive generations of a product line helps to avoid confusion and ensures you get the exact model you’re looking for. It also means we don’t have to add year or generation cues (we’re looking at you, MacBook Air, iMac and iPod). We liked having an iPad 2, and even the iPhone 4S wasn’t too bad.
