Samsung Galaxy S3 sales hit 30 million within six months

Samsung Galaxy S3 sales have topped 30 million units, with the iPhone 5 rival topping the latest milestone figure just six months after its official May release.

The Next Web reports that Samsung had expected to reach that number at the end of the year, but it has hit the sales milestone after only 150 days. 10 million were sold in September and October alone.

As the site points out, that is “significant since it shows that the device is still selling well, despite the launch of the iPhone 5.”

It’s also quite an achievement given the premium price of the device, and there is still the peak Christmas period to come, though it remains to be seen if the new Samsung Galaxy S3 mini will eat into sales of its bigger brother.

As reported recently, Samsung has also sold more than three million units of its Galaxy Note 2 in less than 40 days, and it could be on track to double the circa-10m sales of the original Galaxy Note.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Specs
Still a leading force on the smartphone scene, the high-end collection of Samsung Galaxy S3 specs have been added to in recent weeks with the launch of a selection of new colour schemes. Building on the Pebble Blue and Marble White handsets available since launch, Samsung has released new red, black, grey and brown models.

All featuring the same collection of premium innards, the Samsung Galaxy S3 models play host to a zippy 1.4GHz Cortex-A9 quad-core processor alongside 1GB of RAM and the option of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage capacities.

With an expansive 4.8-inch 1280 x 720p Super AMOLED HD display wrapped up within a svelte 8.6mm thick form factor, the Samsung Galaxy S3 camera collection sees an 8-megapixel rear-mounted snapper with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities line up alongside a second, 1.9-megapixel, forward-facing camera that boasts 720p HD video recording possibilities in its own right.
