Samsung Galaxy S4 Active release to see Phones 4u stock waterproof handset

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active will hit retailers later this summer with Phones 4u confirming it will stock the ruggedized Samsung Galaxy S4 spinoff at launch.

Formally unveiled earlier today, June 5, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active builds on the base of its flagship S4 sibling, with IP67 waterproofing, dustproofing and drop proofing thrown into the mix.

“We see a huge ongoing appetite for Samsung mobile phone, with every 1 in 3 handsets purchased at Phones 4u being Samsung smartphones,” Scott Hooton, Chief Commercial Officer of Phones 4u said.

“With the new Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, Samsung is growing the Galaxy family and adding a new device that is among many things water, dust and shatter proof.  It’s caters perfectly for people who love to have their phone on them whenever they are active.”

He added: “With the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, fitness enthusiasts have a device that is truly designed to be with you outdoors and capture everything, from their heart rate to strides, as well as pictures during their workout.”

Although confirming it will boas the handset on its shelves, Phones 4u has yet to reveal a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active release date or price. Announcing the handset, Samsung confirmed the S4 Active will be made available in the UK “this summer.” Phones 4u is now allowing wannabe owners to register their interest in the upcoming handset.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Specs
Somewhat thicker and heavier than its flagship sibling, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active lines up at 9.1mm thick and 151g in weight. Thanks to its protective coating the handset is capable of being submerged under 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes without concern.

Packing the same 1.9GHz quad-core processor as the standard S4, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active specs sheet is further enhanced by 2GB of RAM and Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.

Trading in the S4’s 13-megapixel rear-mounted snapper for an 8-megapixel option, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active camera boasts an Aqua Mode for improved underwater shots.
