Samsung Galaxy Note Gets UK Release Date

Samsung’s oversized smartphone-tablet hybrid, the Galaxy Note, is coming to the UK. According to the MD of Samsung UK, the 5.3in screen device will launch here on 17 November.

The Samsung Galaxy Note was revealed at this year’s IFA show in Berlin, and speculation that it won’t come to the UK has been quashed by Samsung UK MD Simon Stanford. He has confirmed it’ll launch here on 17 November. No official pricing details have been revealed, but its spec list suggests it won’t come cheap.

Boasting a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and the Super AMOLED screen tech reserved for Samsung’s top-end models, the Galaxy Note won’t be competing with the Amazon Kindle Fire on price any time soon. It has the further complication of being a super-niche device. It’s too big to be a smartphone, too small to be a tablet. Samsung says it is part of a new category of device, but it’s one we’ve met before – first in the Dell Streak, the sales of which did not set the world alight. Note Side

It may be a bit smaller that most tablets, but it beats a great many of them on pure specification terms. The Galaxy Note will offer dual 8- and 2-megapixel cameras, 16GB of internal storage and a 1280×800 pixel resolution, boasting rather fantastic 285dpi pixel density – almost as high as the iPhone 4. The Note will also offer expandable memory and is both thin and lightweight at 178g and 9.65mm thick.
Galaxy Note

The Galaxy Note reinforces Samsung’s reputation as the tablet maker determined to fill each possible form factor slot with a product. It offers the standard smartphone and tablet sizes with the Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, but also fills-in every spot in-between.  The Note, Tab 8.9 and Tab 7.7 demonstrate an almost obsessive determination to have more tablets that anyone else out there. But do these in-betweeny devices spark your gadget lust?
