Samsung Galaxy Note 5 stylus housing pictured

More Samsung Galaxy Note 5 images have leaked onto the internet, this time showing the phablet’s much-debated stylus housing mechanism.

That last line might be laughable if it didn’t sound so banal, but there has genuinely been some debate over how the Note 5 will handle its stylus. In all previous models, you see, access to the stylus (which is housed within the body of the phone) comes from a cut-away section on the back cover.

This would prove impractical if the Note 5 was to emulate the glass back cover design of the Samsung Galaxy S6, as all reports suggest that it will.

A Samsung patent appeared to provide a possible answer. It seemed the company was looking at a virtual eject button for the Note 5 stylus, with magnets holding it in place for a quick software-based release.

Fresh images of what appears to be a Note 5 prototype from from French blog Nowhereelse have put paid to that idea. As you can see, the stylus sits in the middle of the bottom edge, with a tiny groove cut into the metal rim.

This looks to be much fiddlier to access than previous Note models, but we’ll have to wait until the launch of the Note 5 to be sure. According to various reports, that launch will take place in mid-August rather than September, as Samsung seeks to preempt the launch of the iPhone 6S Plus.
