Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release reportedly brought forward to July

Ever since the original Galaxy Note birthed the modern era of phablets back in 2011, Samsung’s entire stylus-bragging phone line has debuted during the Berlin-based IFA conference. That could all be about to change, however.

According to new reports out of Samsung’s native Korea, the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 has been pushed forward, overlooking a prospective IFA unveiling in favour of a late July launch.

As unlikely as this might seem, news outlet WhoWired has cited unnamed insiders in claiming the handset is heading to retailers during the height of summer, with the finished phone having already been shown off to clients.

It has been suggested that the phone’s release has been brought forward in a bid to regain customers tempted away by the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, Apple’s first phablet offering.

The iPhone 6S Plus is expected to debut alongside its smaller sibling in mid-September.

Another possible reason for a July release is the impending arrival of Samsung’s own Apple Pay rival – the aptly named Samsung Pay.

The contactless payment platform has been pencilled in for a July release, with the Note 5 tipped to act as a launch device for the fledgling service.

Give Samsung’s Note-based launch history and the lack of official word on the matter, we would suggest taking these early Note 5 release rumours with a sizeable pinch of salt.

Past reports have claimed the big brother to the Galaxy S6 will be debuted at a dedicated pre-IFA press conference on either September 1 or 2.

The handset has been mooted to adopt an unrivalled 5.9-inch 4K display alongside 4GB of RAM and a 20-megapixel, OIS-enhanced camera.
