Following months of rumours, leaks and speculation, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is finally official.
Samsung just announced the Galaxy Note 5 at its annual “Unpacked” event, which is being held right here in London.
The smartphone is a long-awaited successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 4, and features a number of upgrades from its predecessor.
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 features
The Note series typically treads phablet territory, and the Note 5 is no exception, with a huge 5.7in Quad HD screen.
Powering the Note 5 is Samsung’s custom-built Exynos 7420 processor. That’s the same one used in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
It also has an impressive 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera that boasts optical image stabilisation.
Perhaps Samsung has so much faith in its own mobile chips that it isn’t worried about paltry battery life.
That small cell has seemingly allowed Samsung to keep its new device looking trim however: the Note 5 is just 7.6mm thick.
Excitingly, the handset is built out of 7000-series aluminium, which is 1.7 times stronger, but not heavier, than the 6013 aluminium used on the Galaxy S6.
What’s more, it’s the same type of aluminium that Apple is rumoured to be using with the next iPhone.
Other features include Bluetooth, Cat 9 LTE support, and wireless charging that’s purported to be 27 per cent faster than the Galaxy S6.

Now onto the bad news. Samsung has confirmed to TrustedReviews that it currently has no plans to launch the Note 5 in the UK.
However, it will be available in North America and “key Asian markets”, so stay tuned for exact locations.
Interestingly, Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 5 alongside another phablet, the Galaxy S6 Edge+, which will be available in the UK in early September.
The S6 Edge+, which was heavily leaked ahead of the official announcement, is a scaled up version of this year’s S6 Edge smartphone.
