Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to have 6.3-inch display?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could feature a 6.3-inch display, according to a recent report.

The Korea Times, as reported by TechRadar, claims to have heard the news of a 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from “officials from a local parts supplier.” This will represent a large jump from the Samsung Galaxy Note 2‘s 5.5-inch display.

Indeed, a 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would be closer in size to 7-inch tablets like the Google Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD than the original 5-inch Samsung Galaxy Note.

We haven’t really seen devices in the 6-inch range yet, though the recently launched Nintendo Wii U comes with a tablet-like controller that sports a 6.2-inch display.

Just recently, we’ve also seen Huawei confirm that it is working on a high-end rival to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The so-called Huawei Ascend Mate is rumoured to feature a 6.1-inch full HD (1080p) display.

So, if you thought that the Android smartphone screen size race had reached its limit, you’re probably wrong. It’s looking like 2013 will be the year of the 6-inchers.

The very same Korea Times report also states that the Samsung Galaxy S4 “will be introduced in February’s Mobile World Congress.” Samsung has also promised something new for its CES 2013 showing in January.

It’s going to be an exciting start to 2013 for Samsung fans, that’s for sure.

Does the thought of a 6.3-inch smartphone appeal, or will it fall between the two stools of the smartphone and tablet form factors? Let us know in the comments box below, or take to our Twitter and Facebook feeds to share your opinion.
