Samsung Galaxy Note 2 release date officially confirmed for UK: 1st of October

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a pretty big phone, in every way. Not only does it sport a massive 5.3-inch HD AMOLED screen, putting it somewhere between the average phone and a small tablet like the Google Nexus 7, but it’s also more powerful than Samsung’s current flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S3. And now we know exactly when it will be coming to the UK, as Samsung Mobile has released the official Galaxy Note 2 release date for these shores: October 1st.

Yep, on the first of next month, UK shops will be selling the next big smartphone. As we noted in our hands-on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 review/first look, the new handset seems extremely impressive. In fact, the Galaxy Note 2 has the specs to make many other smartphones feel a little inadequate, with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and the usual niceties like NFC, with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running the show.

Of course the Note 2’s unique feature, and the one it gets its name from, is the pressure-sensitive S-Pen ‘stylus’ that uses Wacom technology – great for designers, artists, those who prefer handwritten notes, and just general scribbling. Pressure levels have been upgraded from the original Samsung Galaxy Note, and, overall, the experience with using the Galaxy Note 2 should be more akin to that offered by the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, which also sports a quad-core CPU and 2GB of RAM. Frankly, we’re glad the previously-rumoured release date of the 15th turned out to be a little pessimistic, at least for the UK.

So on the 1st of October we’ll have a new flagship in the Samsung smartphone stable “on every major network” according to the press release, but will it be enough to take on the mighty iPhone 5? They’re probably aimed at different markets, but both the Note 2 and Apple’s new iPhone will represent (however briefly in the former’s case) the best that Android and iOS have to offer. However, we’ll be sure to let you know soon in our full Samsung Galaxy Note 2 review.
