Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launching 19 October

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus should have taken
place earlier this week, but due to unforeseen circumstances it didn’t, but it
will now take place next Wednesday, 19 October.

As well as being the launch of the latest Nexus model, the
event will see the launch of the latest version of Android, the unifying Ice
Cream Sandwich
, which has been designed to work with smartphones and tablets.

Initially due to launch in San Diego last Tuesday (11 October), the
event was delayed due to the untimely death of Apple founder Steve Jobs. The
event has now been rearranged for October 19 in Hong Kong
according to press invites sent out yesterday.

Ice Cream Sandwich Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launch

We already have a pretty good idea of the specs of this new
flagship Android device thanks to a number of leaks, and teaser videos from
Samsung itself.

The Galaxy Nexus (codenamed the Nexus Prime) will have a
4.65in Super AMOLED HD screen which like the Nexus S will be curved for more
comfort. It is rumoured to have a screen resolution of 1280
x 720 pixels – but we’re yet to be convinced that this is the case.

It will be just 9mm thin and feature a dual-core Texas
Instruments OMAP 4460 Cortex A9 processor, clocked at 1.2GHz. It will have 1GB
of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage, which will be a first for an Android
phone.

It will have a 5 megapixel camera on the rear, capable of
1080p HD video capture, and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. It will have
LTE/HSPA support depending on carrier (and of course whether you live in a
country with a working 4G network), Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC and a 1750mAh battery.

The launch of Ice Cream Sandwich will be just as interesting,
with Google’s attempt to bring its fragmented OS back together, something many
users will be looking forward to.

The launch is taking place at 10am local time which is 3am
UK time, but fear not loyal listener, we will be covering the event live and
bringing you all the details as they are announced.

Looking forward to the launch? Let us know in the comments.
