Samsung Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 selfie phones announced

Samsung has officially unveiled the Samsung Galaxy J5 and Samsung Galaxy J7, two mid-range selfie-focused phones aimed at the Chinese market.

Both phones share a defining feature – a 5-megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera with an LED flash. It’s the first time Samsung has offered such a component on one (or two) of its phones.

That’s not the only component the J5 and J7 share. Both have 13-megapixel main cameras with a Galaxy S6-like f/1.9 aperture lens. They also share LTE, dual SIM slots, and 1.5GB of RAM.

Both phones run on Android 5.1 Lollipop, too.

Differences? There are a few. The Samsung Galaxy J5 has a 5-inch 720p display, while the Samsung Galaxy J7 has a 5.5-inch 720p display.

The J7 is also more powerful, with an octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU. The J5, meanwhile, is stuck with a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor.

Given the larger display, its understandable that the Samsung Galaxy J7 also has a larger battery than the Galaxy J5: 3000mAh versus 2600mAh.

The Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 will launch in China this week for 1,398 CNY (£142) and 1,798 CNY (£183) respectively. Will we ever see them here in the UK? We honestly don’t know, but something tells us we’ll have something similar, at least.
