6-inch Samsung Galaxy A9 officially announced for China

UPDATE 24/12: Samsung has now officially announced the Galaxy A9 phablet. As reported yesterday, it’ll be a China-only affair for now, but we’ll keep you posted if the firm makes any announcements regarding other markets. Check out yesterday’s report below, for all the specs details..

Original story continues below…

Samsung’s forthcoming premium mid-range phablet, the Samsung Galaxy A9, has appeared on China’s TENAA certification body.

We’ve seen a number of detailed leaks concerning the Samsung Galaxy A9 in recent weeks. Just last week, a bunch of official-looking promo documents hit the web, offering a good look at the classy new phone.

Now things have taken another step towards an official release, as the Samsung Galaxy A9 hits China’s TENAA. This is the country’s certification body, which approves the release of smartphones in the country, rather like America’s FCC.

As PhoneArena points out, the TENAA listing confirms many of the specs we had read about previously.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 will measure 161.7 x 80.9 x 7.4 mm, and it will weigh a chunky 200g. This can be put down to its metal frame and the presence of a massive 6-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display.

The extra weight can also be put down to the Galaxy A9’s massive 4,000mAh battery. This thing should last a couple of days on a single charge.

It’ll run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 CPU clocked at 1.8GHz, and  there’ll be 32GB of internal storage, plus microSD expansion. The A9’s rear camera will be a 13-megapixel example, while the front snapper will be 8-megapixel.

What we don’t know is exactly when the Samsung Galaxy A9 will be unveiled or released, when it will hit the West (it got FCC approval last week), or how much it will cost. At least there are some surprises left, then.
