Samsung F8000 Smart TV is 2013 non-4K LED TV flagship
At CES 2013, Samsung has officially launched its new Samsung F8000 Smart LED TV, the world’s first with a quad-core processor. Available in 40-inch to a whopping 75-inch, this premium, ultra-slim TV range offers a Full HD (1080p) resolution, Active 3D, and ‘Micro Dimming’ tech for increased contrast.
If you’re after a Samsung telly but the Samsung 55-inch OLED TV F9500 and Samsung S9 (S9000) 4K LED 85-inch are a bit too rich for your blood, the F8000 range is the next best thing.
The F8000 will be available in five different sizes: 40-inch, 46-inch, 55-inch, 65inch and a massive 75inch.
Samsung F8000 LED Smart TV Specs
Samsung, which is the UK leader in the LED TV segment, has stuffed the F8000 full of features and nice design touches. Its high-quality panel sports a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and is fast enough to cope with 3D, though this requires active Bluetooth 3D glasses.
For the first time in this series, the LED backlighting offers many zones which can be individually controlled to enhance contrast over models offering traditional edge-lit panels. Samsung calls this Micro Dimming and claims that with the aid of it Precision Black algorithm, this will give excellent contrast.
The Samsung F8000 is also the world’s first Smart LED TV to feature a quad-core processor, which can speed up start-up and browsing by three times as speedy as on previous Samsung 8000-series models. The quad-core chip also helps with Samsung’s new and improved voice and gesture controls. In the unlikely case that this ARM-based Exonys chip gets too slow down the road, you can simply upgrade it using Samsung’s unique Smart Evolution system, which lets you pop in a new SoC.
The design of the F8000 isn’t as striking as the Korean company’s S9 (S9000) 4K LED 85-inch with its unique “Timeless Gallery” frame, but still sports the streamlined aesthetic and ultra-slim bezel that made 2012’s models so popular. The redesigned stand has seen an overhaul and it still very attractive, though it doesn’t allow swivel.
Samsung F8000 LED Smart TV Price and Launch Date
No Samsung F8000 LED UK release date or price have been announced, but we should be seeing these premium 3D TVs in the spring and, going by past 8000-series pricing, around £1,500 for the 40-inch F8000 shouldn’t be too far out. Still, with ever more OLED and 4K TVs on the horizon, the prices on LED models may come down quickly.
