Samsung’s working on a new ‘DeX Pad’ to launch alongside the Galaxy S9
Reliable tipster Evan Blass revealed last month that Samsung is working on a second-generation version of its DeX desktop accessory, which is rumoured to launch alongside the Galaxy S9 – and now we know what it will be called when it hits the shelves, thanks to a recent trademark filing.
The folks over at Galaxy Club spotted a document requesting a trademark on the moniker ‘DeX Pad’ on the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s (EUIPO) online database on January 2, seemingly confirming rumours claiming that the dock will feature a flat design, instead of an upright build à la original DeX.
It’s thought that Samsung altered the design of the DeX docking station to provide users with the option to use their handset’s high-resolution edge-to-edge Infinity Display as a touchpad or virtual keyboard when it’s lying flat, thus eliminating the need to lug around a – wired or wireless – mouse or keyboard.

The Galaxy S9, according to Blass, will feature a near-identical design to the Galaxy S8, though it should benefit from a slightly beefier battery, a repositioned fingerprint sensor, a more powerful processor and an updated rear-facing camera configuration – a dual-camera on the slightly larger Galaxy S9 Plus.
Do you think Samsung’s apparent decision to do away with the DeX’s reliance on a companion mouse and keyboard will be enough to make it a household product? Be sure to let us know over on Facebook and Twitter @TrustedReviews.
