Samsung denies it ships new phones with recycled AMOLED displays

Samsung has issued a statement to deny reports it uses recycled AMOLED panels for the production of brand new devices.

Purported evidence emerging from the company’s South Korean homeland claimed to show refurbished display panels being fitted to the new Galaxy Note 4 (see video below) and other new handsets.

A series of removed message board posts, an Evernote document and a Twitter account was also held up as evidence of the firm’s wrongdoing.

Reports suggested Samsung’s manufacturing arm may have been blowing the whistle on the practice, which the company his vehemently denied.

The firm says recycled panels have been used for warranty repairs, but never for new smartphones.

The (translated) statement reads: “There is a rumor that we have used recycled AMOLED display panels in our smartphones, but it is not true at all.

“Recycled AMOLED display panels have not been used at all in product manufacturing processes, while some of the panels have been employed for paid warranty services.”

Given the firm prides itself on its display technology and mocks rivals for living up to the same standards, we’d be surprised if there was any chicanery.

We’d be inclined to give Samsung the benefit of the doubt on this one, but it seems someone definitely has an axe to grind over something.
