Samsung confirms Galaxy Gear smartwatch launch on September 4

Samsung has announced that it will be unveiling its Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch on September 4.

Launching alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be the second device showcased during its IFA 2013 press event in Berlin.

According to the Korea Times, Samsung’s Executive Vice President Lee Young-hee has confirmed that the Galaxy Gear will be making an IFA appearance next week on September 4.

“We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on September 4”, said Lee.

Also confirming that the Samsung smartwatch will bear the Galaxy Gear branding that was tipped by several patent filings earlier this month, Lee unfortunately failed to offer any details on specs.

“The Gear won’t have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways”, said Lee. “It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry.”

Lee also confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be launching at the pre-IFA Unpacked event. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was teased by the Samsung Unpacked event invite, which asks members of the press to “Note the Date”.

“Samsung opened a new smart mobile device category back in 2011 with the introduction of the first Galaxy Note. Since then, smartphones with large screen have been a mainstream trend. As the creator of this category, we will introduce our customers to enhanced key features on our Galaxy Note devices.”

Recent Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rumours suggest that the phone will be released with a 5.7-inch display, 1.9GHz quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM and the same 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera as the Samsung Galaxy S4.
