Samsung has filed a patent for a new piece of software called Apps Edge, which could add greater functionality to its curved-screen devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is a beautiful phone, packed full of the best smartphone components around. However, the premium you pay for its dual-curved display is difficult to justify.
However, Samsung looks to be addressing that with a recent patent filing for a piece of software called Apps Edge.
According to the filing, which was uncovered by Phandroid, Apps Edge is “for use in organising and allowing quick access to frequently used applications.”
Unfortunately, it doesn’t get any more specific. But given this information and the use of “Edge” in the name, it isn’t hard to speculate that it could refer to Samsung’s curved-screen technology.
It seems likely that Samsung wants to offer better shortcuts to frequently used apps from the curved part of the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and its kind. It’s also possible that Samsung wants to open this feature out to third-party app developers.

With rumours of a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on the horizon – which will apparently be a super-sized Galaxy S6 Edge – it would be a good time for the company to start differentiating between those curved displays.
