Samsung Announces Omnia W Mango Phone

Samsung has just announced the follow up to the Omnia 7
handset, in the shape of the Mango-touting Samsung Omnia W.

The Omnia W will arrive next month becoming available in Italy first, before
rolling out across the globe in the following weeks. The Omnia W will be
Samsung’s first Windows Phone 7 Mango handset and features a similar Super
AMOLED screen seen on the original Omnia 7.

The Omnia W will however be smaller than its predecessor,
with a 3.7in display, down from 4in. Powering everything will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon clocked at 1.4GHz.
There will be a 5-megapixel autofocus camera on the rear capable of shooting
720p video at 30fps. There is also a front-facing camera of VGA quality to take
advantage of the up-coming Skype video calling support.

The Omnia W will have 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal
storage, measure 115.9 x 58.8 x 10.9mm and weigh 115.3g.

The Omnia W won’t be coming to the US, however
Samsung’s Focus Flash, which the company has already announced for the AT&T
network, looks like a very similar device.

“We are excited about the potential for Windows Phone and
the possibilities it opens for Samsung customers. Mobile consumers increasingly
expect to be socially networked through their phones anytime, anywhere, and
instantly. They are looking for high-performance devices that are easy and
intuitive to use, look great, and enable them to create and share rich
multimedia content with ease. The Samsung Omnia W delivers on every count,”
said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications business.

While the hardware itself may not deliver anything revolutionary
in terms of hardware, it is the Mango flavour of Windows Phone 7 which will
appeal when the phone finally makes its way to stores next month.
