Following on from the launch of three new travel compacts, Samsung has also added three new models to its ST range of style-driven digital compacts in the shape of the ST88, ST77 and ST66.

All three new models come with a brushed-metal finish, an effective resolution of 16.1MP, and a 5x optical zoom that offers a focal range of between 25mm and 125mm in 35mm terms.

The ST77 and ST88 also benefit from optical stabilisation technology to minimise the effects of camera shake at slower shutter speeds and longer focal lengths. In addition, the ST88 also gets a 3in, 460k-dot AMOLED screen, whereas the ST77 and ST66 come with 2.7inch, 230k-dot LCD screens.

The three new models are all fully automatic, and come with a choice of Smart Auto (automatic scene recognition) and Program exposure modes options, along with a selection of individually selectable Scene modes.

In addition, all of the new cameras offer the ability to record video as well as stills although the maximum quality setting for all three models maxes out at 720p HD at 30fps – as the top model of the trio, we had rather expected the ST88 to offer 1080p Full HD.
That said, all three cameras come with the usual raft of Samsung extras including a selection of Smart Filter digital effects, Live Panorama, and Picture-In-Picture modes.

The three new Samsung ST models are expected to become available in the UK within the next month. At the time of writing, however, prices have yet to be confirmed.
