Samsung adds three new cameras to line-up

Face recognition: it's wave of the the future

Samsung has been having a busy month. Following on from the launch of seven new cameras a few weeks ago, it has just announced three more new models.

At the top of the list is a new addition to the stylish and innovative NV series, the NV11. Its specification includes a ten-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom Schneider lens and 1600 ISO high-sensitivity capability.

It features the intuitive Smart Touch user interface first seen on the NV10, and a big 2.7in LCD monitor. It is also equipped with Samsung’s proprietary ASR image stabilisation system which helps to capture the best possible images even in dimly lit conditions, as well as face recognition technology, which detects a subject’s face, and automatically adjusts auto focus and auto exposure to ensure better composition and image quality in portraits. It has a 30fps VGA movie mode recording in the MPEG-4 format. The NV11 will be available from mid-March, with a list price of £299.99.

Second up is the interesting-looking i7, a seven-megapixel 3x zoom hybrid “convergence” camera featuring an unusual rotating 3.0” touch-screen LCD monitor. Turning the monitor to different positions activates the camera’s various functions. With the LCD in neutral (0 degrees) the user can access SRS quality music files through the integrated MP3 player; with the LCD rotated to 90 degrees its Portable Multimedia Player (PMP) comes into action; and turned a full 180 degrees, still images and MPEG-4 SVGA quality moving pictures can be taken.

The i7’s multimedia capabilities also include a Tour Guide function providing quick access to information about places to see and things to do in over 4,000 regions in 30 countries. Further information can also be downloaded directly from the Internet into the camera’s capacious 512 MB of internal memory. It also features the same ASR anti-shake, 1600 ISO sensitivity and face recognition technology as the NV11. The i7 will also be in the shops in mid-March, with a list price of £249.99.

The third new launch is the L74 Wide, a seven-megapixel 3.6x optical zoom camera featuring a 28mm wide-angle lens for wider picture images. Designed for travel photography, the L74 also features the Tour Guide function providing travel information for 4,000 regions in 30 countries, with 450 MB of internal memory.

Other features include MPEG-4 SVGA movies with in-camera editing, a 3.0in touch-screen LCD monitor with Samsung’s Flash Graphic User Interface, face recognition AE and AF technology and the ASR anti-shake system. The L74 Wide will retail at £229.99 and will be available from leading high street and online retailers from mid-March 2007.
