Samsung About To Hatch A Windows 8 RT Tablet?

Samsung has made a tablet that runs Windows 8 RT, which it plans to launch in October, according to a report by Bloomberg.

October is the likely debut of Windows 8, and RT is a version of the operating system especially re-purposed for touchscreen devices and ARM chips.

Microsoft itself will be rolling out its Surface tablet series, one of which will run Windows RT. Surface has yet to get a confirmed on sale date or price, but it is rumoured to be at the higher end of the scale.

Samsung sells more mobile phones than any other company in the world at the moment but its Galaxy Tab range of tablets has not been able to ape the commercial success of the iPad.

The 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab has also been hit by sales bans in various parts of the globe after legal action by Apple, which has been targeting Android devices aggressively.

Apple’s Korean rival could be considering a Windows tablet as a way around this, although it may be something that was always in Samsung’s product planning.

Last year Samsung showed off a prototype Windows tablet at a Microsoft developer event (pictured above), so it has clearly been toying with the idea for some time.

Bloomberg’s sources say the Samsung Windows RT tablet will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Samsung is one of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon manufacturers.
