Rumour: PS3 Price Drop “Soon”

According to an anonymous retailer.

Despite constant pleas by Sony that no price cut is planned for the PS3 and it would like for everyone to stop asking and leave it alone, CVG reports a “major UK high street retailer” as saying a price drop is coming “soon.”

The console which currently retails for around $400 in the US and £299 in the UK will apparently see a drop to a $300 (£215) MSRP. In all likelihood that would translate to a reduction to something like £249 at retail over here. Not a huge drop, but certainly one that many would call much needed. A PSP price drop is also mooted, though I doubt that reduction will be met with as much enthusiasm if it occurs.

According to this retailer this price drop has “been on the cards for a while, but manufacturers are not in the habit of giving exact dates so as not to effect sales.” The new pricing is predicted to come into force next week.

Fingers crossed would-be cheaper PlayStation 3 buyers.
