Rumour: Mac Mini Refresh At MacWorld

Baby Mac to see a January update.

Apple’s Macworld conference in January is traditionally a time of new product announcements, such as the MacBook Air and, according to Wired, 2009’s conference will be no different. Citing “Apple corporate employee” as its source, Wired reckons Macworld 2009 will see Mac Mini’s emerging from Cupertino.

Wired’s source was, apparently, unwilling to give any details other than the fact Apple will be announcing the new Mac Mini at Macworld. That’s okay, though, because we all love a little speculation. And looking at the refreshed MacBook line-up it seems pretty simple to guess the direction the Mini will take.

Unibody aluminium chassis are almost a given, and it seems reasonable to expect nVidia 9400 chipsets to be used, too. DisplayPort, of the mini variety, is likely to be sported and RAM and CPU are likely to sit in line with the 13.3in MacBook.

Hopefully post-refresh, if it does indeed happen, the Mac Mini will become a viable desktop PC again. As lovely as the iMac range is, not all of us want an all-in-one solution. Not to mention losing the display will mean a decent price drop versus the iMac line-up.

Fingers crossed…
