Not one but two respected Apple journalists have chipped in on the matter of the iPad Mini’s likely launch date. John Gruber of Daring Fireball has been putting some thought into the suggestion that the iPhone 5 would share the limelight with Apple’s new 7-inch tablet, and he just doesn’t see it happening.
“I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time,” he says.”Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage?”
The more Gruber thinks about it – and this is a guy whose thoughts are well respected and often on the money when it comes to Apple gear – the less he thinks a shared September 12 launch event is likely. “The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention — and it’s in Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted,” he adds.
Gruber believes that there will in fact be two events – the September 12 one for the iPhone 5 and iOS 6, and Apple’s traditional October event – which is typically reserved for music and iPod updates – set aside for the iPad Mini.
Another respected Apple journalist is Jim Dalrymple over on The Loop. He’s read Gruber’s postulation concerning two separate launch events and posted the following appraisal: “Oh that Gruber is a smart fellow.”
Dalrymple tends to have his finger on the Apple pulse more than most, so if he thinks Gruber is on to something we should probably all take note.
