Rovio announce new Angry Birds games centred on pink Stella bird

Rovio has announced it is launching a new Angry Birds game centred around the pink bird, Stella.

Angry Birds Stella will be a new spin-off focused on the pink bird originally introduced with Angry Birds Seasons.

It seems Robio is not only going to use Stella to launch a new game, but the spin-off will also come with its own range of books, cartoons, toys and “other fun stuff”.

Rovio is keeping the majority of the details surrounding Angry Birds Stella close to its chest, including how the game will function.

“Angry Birds Stella is breaking the mould by introducing strong, passionate characters who really stand for something, whole adding plenty of action and reality into the mix”, said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. “The Angry Birds Stella story will live and evolve across physical and digital, bridging them in fun and innovative ways. Stella and her friends are here to stay, with plenty of adventures ahead of them.”

It seems Stella might be a way to attract new female games to the series, although the Finnish game developer is cautious about making this too obvious.

However, Rovio seems keen to enforce that Stella is a strong female character rather than the traditional damsel in distress female game stereotype a la Princes Peach.

“Get ready to meet Stella and her friends! Stella may be pink, but she’s definitely one of the Angry Birds, a fierce and feisty character with a great group of friends.”

Although the Pigs may not be making an appearance, Angry Birds Stella will at least feature some kind of opposition to our little pink feathered friend.

The Angry Birds Stella website, which currently is home to nothing more than a holding image, suggests that Stella’s pals may become the problem. The tagline reads: “Best friends forever. Most of the time.”

Rovio will announce more on Angry Birds Stella at a later date.

“What is coming exactly? Well, you’ll have to wait for a bit longer to find that out!”
