Roku 4 reportedly turns up in leaked render

Just 24 hours after the existence of the Roku 4 streaming box was purportedly confirmed by an FCC filing, the box appears to have broken cover in a photo leaked online.

The next-gen set-top box has apparently leaked out in a snap discovered by AFTV News (via SlashGear) within Roku’s own website.

The writer of the article says he wrote a script that found images that are yet to be published by websites, which turned up the above picture.

Judging by the outed snap it looks as if Roku is opting for a thinner and wider design than its traditional hockey-puck offering.

The colour scheme remains the same (black with a purple Roku trim), while the  headphone jack remains on the side of the remote, allowing users to enjoy content without bothering everyone else in the house.

It also looks like Roku has added some dedicated content buttons to the remote.

Although it’s a little hard to judge from the leaked photo, it looks as if there’s an ESPN or YouTube button, along with a Google Play option in place of the dedicated quick access to Hulu.

Yesterday’s FCC filing appeared offered little in the way of details other than to confirm the existence of the Roku 4. Recent rumours have suggested the device will be revealed on October 1 and feature 4K video streaming.

Can Roku outshine the impressive, yet 4K-less Apple TV with its latest box? We may not have to wait very long to find out.
