Roku 4K Streaming Stick+ UK release date and price revealed
Roku is finally bringing a 4K HDR-ready streaming device to the UK in the form of the all-new Roku Streaming Stick+. Here’s everything we know so far, including its price and release date, as well as details of the affordable Roku Express.
Roku makes some of the best and most accessible streaming products around, including the Roku 3 and the Roku Streaming Stick, but so far the UK hasn’t been treated to a 4K streamer from the US-based company – despite it launching its first Ultra HD model, the Roku 4, in the States as far back as 2015.
That’s all changed now, though, with the firm revealing that recently announced UHD dongle the Roku Streaming Stick+ is set to land imminently here in Blighty.
First announced on October 2 in America, the Stick+ packs a quad-core processor and support for 4K and HDR content at up to 60fps – the same frame rate offered by the new 4K Apple TV.
Standard HD flicks and shows will obviously be supported, too, while those searching for stuff to watch in Ultra HD will find a ‘one stop shop’ in the form of Roku’s native 4K Spotlight channel. There’s also dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi onboard, so buffering shouldn’t be an issue.
The Streaming Stick+ will go on sale online from October 19, ahead of hitting High Street retailers by November – which, conveniently, is just in time for Black Friday 2017, so keep an eye out for deals on Roku gadgets old and new.
It’s set to retail for £79.99, which is reasonable £30 bump over the bog standard Roku Streaming Stick, which carries a £50 RRP.
Looking for an even more affordable streamer?
The Stick+ is joined in Roku’s refreshed UK lineup by an upgraded Roku Express, a basic set-top box that offers streaming in 1080p and will be priced at just £30 from October 19.
