ROKR 2 Details Emerge

Why not just put the line out of its misery?

There is something to be said for allowing things a humane death, letting them pass on gracefully when their time in the world is no longer beneficial. Clearly Motorola hasn’t learnt this philosophical lesson however, as the ill-conceived ROKR brand stumbles on.

Shown off to investors last week, the capsule shaped ‘ROKR E2’ appears to take major styling cues from the PEBL handset the company unveiled at 3GSM. It also appears to have corrected some of the ROKR’s innumerable flaws, but not enough.

For example, the underpowered VGA camera is said to have been upped to one megapixel, but three months down the line that just makes it as proportionately weak compared to the competition as the original was. Likewise, the dismal 100 track limit of the ROKR has been upped to 1,000 but with the exponentially expanding capacities and falling prices of flash memory cards why is there a limit at all?

Still we will get a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth and USB2.0 support which is some consolation, but with the SLVR L7 already adopting iTunes in a much sexier form factor and the pumped up RAZR V3i also getting in on the act, I really can’t see the point. Be kind Motorola; put it out of its misery.
