Rockstar to stop GTA Online update support for Xbox 360 and PS3

Rockstar Games has announced it is ceasing support for GTA Online updates on Xbox 360 and PS3.
It’s the end of the line for GTA Online on last-gen consoles, as Rockstar Games just announced it will no longer release updates on the platforms for the multiplayer portion of GTA 5.
The announcement of major changes coming to Grand Theft Online on September 15 also revealed that support for the older consoles is about to stop.
That means new additions such as Freemode Events will not be coming to Xbox 360 or PS3. This is due to the older hardware not being able to support such new features.
“As we mentioned previously, we always knew there might be a point where we would reach the technical capacity of what the older generation of consoles can handle as each downloadable update requires additional memory both for assets and for additional scripting,” said Rockstar Games.
“We have continued to optimize the entire game over time in order to squeeze as much memory as we possibly could out of the last-generation hardware and at some point, continuing to add content for those systems could cause the risk of instability to the game overall.”

Of course that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to play GTA Online on either the PS3 or Xbox 360 though. It just means you won’t get any new features from this point onwards.
Rockstar has confirmed it has no plans to shut down either of the Xbox 360 or PS3 servers for GTA Online just yet.
